MWLC Endorses Joan Shores!

Joan Shores

"Born in Paola, Kansas I attended school there and went on to the University of Kansas graduating with a B.S. in Foods and Nutrition.  During my professional career as a Registered Dietitian, I worked several decades in hospitals and long-term care.  Now retired, I am an enthusiastic member of Missouri Women’s Leadership Coalition, American Association of University Women, Greater Kansas City Women’s Political Caucus and Cass County Women’s Democratic Club.

Thirty-year residents of House District 57, my husband and I live on the farm and enjoy the outdoors, wildlife, fishing and occasional travel.  Our district includes all of Henry County and portions of Benton, Bates, and Cass counties.  A mainly rural area, the district is made up of farms, towns and villages, Ozark woods and the lakes country.

I’m running for House District 57 State Representative because I’m worried about education and our children’s future, about our family farms that depend on expanded foreign markets to buy their crops.  I’m running for the creation of jobs with pay sufficient to raise a healthy family.  I’m running to demand expansion of Medicaid to help our frail impoverished elderly.  We must increase the minimum wage.  And we must provide equal opportunity to all, to pass laws guaranteeing equal pay for equal work, to close the gender pay gap.

Our beautiful state of Missouri is filled with history, with plentiful resources.  Most important, our Missouri is filled with people who help their neighbors, people who care.  I will work alongside of you and together we will raise up Missouri!" - Joan Shores
