"I filed to be a candidate after I learned the current representative in my district was running unopposed, two business days before close. I'm a stay-at-home parent, who left work because childcare cost more than I made. I was raised by a single mother, who was the first person in our family to graduate high school and who worked full-time while she finished college to try to give me opportunities she never had. My grandmother left school in the 5th grade to raise her brothers and never got to go back; We lost her to cancer two years after she retired. I want better for our women, for all of Missouri.
My district, 62, is rural; We are between Rolla and Jefferson City. The issues here are the same ones you will find all across our state. Our public schools are hurting, our people can't afford their medications or get treatment, and our rivers and land are under threat from corporate pollution. Our workers are in danger of losing their ability to protect their pay, their time. I knew I had to be more than just a name on a ballot when I began my research into legislation, and how our current representatives are voting. We need more people who value education, health care, and our environment in positions to assure these areas are being given the attention they deserve. We need more women making politics their business." - Ashley Fajkowski, MWLC's endorsed candidate for Missouri House District 62.
